Our Story
In 2006 we fell in love with Sylvania Lodge, a rustic historic camp in Somerset County. We were in awe of the original Craftsman Architecture, beautiful creek side setting, and great location just down the road from the ski resorts. The work proved much more significant than we imagined, but we persevered and began to enjoy bringing the old place back to life. Before we knew it, our cottage was being featured in a National Homes Publication and we were getting inquiries from people who wanted to stay there.
We decided to make it available for vacation rentals, partly to offset our renovation costs, but also to share it with others. It proved very popular; many other people were also looking for a unique place to stay, perhaps to take a step back to a simpler time when vacations were unhurried and relaxing. We found that sometimes we did not have enough room for all of our friends and guests. When another cottage became available just upstream we decided to acquire and restore it as well. After yet more renovations (...oh the stories we could tell), we now have both cottages restored and available to share. They are walking distance from each other along a scenic mountain trail, yet far enough apart to be out of view and with their own unique personality.
We have had guests from every imaginable place; some from as far as Australia! Some groups have been as small as a writer looking to get away and finish a book, other groups have been as large as those taking both cottages for extended families. Some are looking to take in all the area attractions, while for others the peace and serenity of the properties among nature is the sole attraction. Just give us a call and we would be happy to help you plan your visit!
